David Zalkaliani has met with PACE President, Liliane Maury Pasquier

30.04.2019, Tbilisi – Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani met at a working dinner with President of PACE Liliane Maury Pasquier.
 
Discussions focused on co-operation between Georgia and the Council of Europe. The sides reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to the Organization’s values and principles that are based on human rights, the rule of law and democracy.
 
Special attention was paid to the difficult human rights situation in Georgia’s occupied territories. In this light, the importance of the CoE Secretary General’s consolidated reports and the decisions made by Committee of Ministers' Deputies of the Council of Europe within the framework of the agenda item “Council of Europe and the Conflict in Georgia”.
 
The sides focused on the tragic cases of murder, kidnappings and torture in Georgia’s occupied territories and the need for the international community’s response to them. The Minister updated the PACE President on the tragic death of Georgian citizen Irakli Kvaratskhelia in suspicious circumstances at the Russian military base in the occupied Abkhazia region.
 
Conversations also included various issues relating to Georgia-CoE co-operation, including  upcoming chairmanship of the CoE Committee of Ministers which Georgia is due to take over in November 2019 for a period of six months.
